I have just signed up to Proton Mail having paid for and used Proton Pass since it was launched in 2023.
Proton Pass is an excellent password manager, seamlessly working across macOS, iOS and Android devices. It stores passwords, passkeys, secure notes, payment cards, Wi-Fi credentials and more. It even generates 2-factor authentication codes for websites and apps. I use it as my default password handler for all my browsers and operating systems.
With Proton Pass, comes limited access to the other offerings from Proton, including Mail. I've used it on and off and, thanks to a Black Friday deal, have added Proton Mail as a paid subscription.
So why? The reason for this is that wanted to keep my various email accounts together under one roof and although Google is the obvious place, I am increasingly uncomfortable about giving all my comings and goings to Gemini. I could use iCloud, but with a custom domain and the need for robust webmail, it's not the best. Besides iCloud spam protection is not very good and Apple doesn't seem to be fussed about developing that service.
Proton Mail seems to fit the bill. It's been easy to set up my domain, create some aliases and start a folder structure. I've also downloaded Proton Bridge as I need to move my mail across. Proton offers a simple transfer service, but I'd like to me more mindful how I approach it.
