One of my favourite coffee shops is the 6/8 Kafe in Birmingham. I find it a quiet little haven amongst the noise and people jousting each other with their shopping. They serve up good coffee and some delicious array of cakes, particularly a Guinness cake which has to be tried. They provide free wifi and quite enjoy sitting there and writing thoughts and plans.
