When AI gives itself away

It is harder to identify, but AI has its own writing style.

An embarrassed rusty robot

AI has its own style when asked to write copy. A Reddit thread entitled “What’s your personal ‘tell’ word to identify ChatGPT-generated text?” shows hundreds of comments from users who have identified linguistic quirks, such as:

  • Unnecessary conclusions
  • Bullet point lists that run 8-10 items long
  • Excessive adjectives like “greatly reduced” instead of just “reduced”
  • Frequent use of specific words and phrases such as “streamline", "tapestry", and "delve"

For those using generated text with chatbots that have a memory, you can tell it to avoid words and phrases that sound too much like an AI response.
